Roster Rating Standard Appeal

Helen has not played outside of the White Mountain APPL leagues since 2022. Her ending rating in 2022 was a 3.52.

Since we cannot use White Mountain ratings and I have no access to anything other than the southern region I am unable to look anything up.

With that being said, Helen has applied on a medical appeal. PER HELEN In March of 2025 I was diagnosed with Acanthamoeba Keratitis and as a result of the infection I am currently blind in my left eye. I have been unable to play pickleball at all for almost 6 months. I was on a team up in the White Mountains this summer but because of the pain, doctor's appointments in Tucson, and the inability to play at a competitive level with my team I did not participate.

I am just getting back on the courts and doing the best I can with one eye. I am hoping to have a cornea transplant once they eye tissue is healthy enough, but even then, it is uncertain if I will have my sight back.

Since she did not play at. all this season and. her APPl rating from the Southern Region is stale, I would like to have her approved either as a self-rated player or allow her appeal to the 3.0 level being only .02 above 4 years ago. She is blind in one eye which would make depth perception almost impossible.

I ask that she be approved.

Karen is requesting approval to play down from 3.54 to 3.0. She has not been active in Appl since 2023.
She played 3.0 in in 2022 starting at 3.2 and ending at 3.54. As a 3.0 she won 39 games and lost 9. She was moved to 3.5 with her starting rating of 3.54
as a 3.5 player she won 18 games and loss 40.
Her rating in 3.5 in 19 of the 58 games reached 3.5, while going no higher than 3.57. The rest of the games her rating was 3.5 or below.

Karen has taken it upon herself to do the self-rating and rated out at 3.0. I have known Karen since 2021 and know her to be honest and straightforward. My teams have played against her over the years as 3.0 and 3.5. She only won one game of my teams in any of the encounters. We played her 4x over two seasons.

I believe that Karen would do well in the 3.0 league and be able to build back up to the 3.5 level.

Sue is a 3.57 player who is asking to play down to a 3.0. She is 75 years old and wants to play doubles with her husband who is a 3.0 and is 82 years old. She was quite sick this past spring and has had a hard time recovering.

Sue and her husband played together last year in 30 games. They won 22 and lost 8. They gained 6 Appl points and allowed 12.

Sue's rating bobbed around all year going between the 3.37 she started with and peaked for one game at 3.6 before going back to a 3.55. While she was over 3.5 most of the season it was usually 3.51, 3.55.... she only hit 3.6 at one time and only for one game of one match.

While her husband COULD play up on a 3.5 team due to his age, his ratings are continuously low 3.2.

with that being said, is she better than 3.0 yes, at 75 playing a a 65+ should that give her some grace when she plays with an 82 year old partner.....

My feelings are if they are husband and wife and can even stand to play together on the same side.... they must be amazing people. I would vote yes based on age. But I realize I am pretty tenderhearted when it come to things like this.

Both AJ and her partner Jen Dale did well at 3.5
Just because her partner did not move up to 3.5 is not a reason to play 18+ @ 3.0.
I would suggest Jen do an appeal to 3.5 if they want to continue to play together. Jen's current rating is 3.42 and could easily get an appeal to 3.5.
These two would DOMINATE at 3.0.

This creates a hard dilemma for the Tubac team with limited players. Greg has a much better win loss record in 65+ than in 50 +

he definitely qualifies for the 65+ no exception limit.
He really should play as an exception on the 50+ team.

Michael played in the APPL league 2023-2025. He is 75 yo, his current APPL Index Rating is 3.66 and he would like to appeal/play 3.0. In 2023, his rating was not affected due to playing in a merged/pilot division. In 2024, he played in a combined 50+/65+ 3.5 flight, won 6 games and lost 18 games. In 2025, he played in a 65+ 3.5 flight, won 18 games and lost 18 games. He is requesting an appeal based on a medical condition, arthritis/tendonitis in his playing wrist. Based on last year results, he seems to be at the correct level (3.5)
