If his partner is equally or potentially stronger, then maybe his partner needs to appeal to 4.0.

REQUIRED:

In the 2025 men’s 50+ APPL season, my partner and I exclusively played with each other as teammates throughout our 42 league games. In the preceding season, this same partner played 12 mixed team games with the same partner. In my 2024 APPL mixed season, I played 40 games with three partners. An accurate rating algorithm like APPL Index does a better job with a diverse set of data to reflect a more precise individual skill pickleball rating.
While our combined average APPL index is acknowledged to be within the 3.8 to 3.9 range, my individual rating is believed to be inflated, while my partner's 2025 APPL rating appears to be understated. This discrepancy is likely attributable to his limited total APPL partnerships and reduced mixed gameplay, which impacts the algorithm's ability to accurately assess individual contributions.
My partner's performance, especially when not partnered in 'King of the Court' Trilogy competitions and general round robin play, suggests he is equal to or potentially stronger.
I do not have a DUPR rating. But I did play in the Fall 2024 Men’s Scottsdale league with a rating of 3.7 with multiple partners. When I played exclusively with my mixed partner in the Winter 2025 Scottsdale mixed play, my rating dropped to 3.3. While Scottsdale utilizes a distinct and perhaps less comprehensive algorithm, this experience underscores how rating accuracy is directly impacted by the diversity and variety of the incoming data.
Finally, anecdotal evidence from recreational games against neighbors on the 4.0 APPL Trilogy team further supports this position. My partner and I consistently lost these games by 5+ points, suggesting that my 4.06 APPL Index is presently inflated when assessed against players at the 4.0 level. All combined, I believe these examples demonstrate a case for reevaluating my individual rating and aligning it more closely with the 3.5-3.99 range.
I appreciate your consideration. I’d also like to thank your organization for the work in bringing competitive pickleball to our community!
Sincerely,
